Greek Elderly Citizens Club of Maroondah

The Greek Elderly Citizens’ Club was established back in 2002. The group meet weekly at the Central Ringwood Community Centre each Wednesday from 12pm to 2.30pm for a bite to eat and drink and above all to connect socially with others in the municipality. The weekly gatherings are important to this group. They believe that the consistency of attendance has been maintained as the group has not only become like a family to each other but they also recognize the importance of remaining socially active. It is through consistent social participation that enables them to age in an active and healthy manner and reduce social isolation which in turn influences the level of health they experience.

Greek Elderly Citizens Club of MaroondahThe men generally enjoy playing cards and backgammon and the women prefer bingo and catching up on the week’s news.

Once a year, they host an annual dinner dance for family and friends and the wider community to attend for a Greek dance. They also organise an annual trip to parts of Victoria. They have taken day trips to Geelong and Phillip Island and have had more extended stays in regional Victoria such as Mildura.

Greek Elderly Citizens Club of MaroondahA formal restaurant lunch is organized for Christmas, Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day each year.

The group supports and encourages multiculturalism and diversity and any person within Maroondah is welcome to join their family irrespective of their race, colour, creed or religion.
