Profile - Croydon Dutch Social Club

Committee Members of the Croydon Dutch Social ClubThis Club was started officially in July 1987.  Before that, people had been coming together but the need was felt to have something more concrete on a regular basis. We were all Seniors looking for company -socializing, friendship and  entertainment and it was not to be a costly  affair because most of our members were and are, age-pensioners. So the Keystone Hall was hired and we have been meeting there ever since.

What do we do? Most of us play cards, a typical Dutch game which is quite intricate. Takes a lot of concentration and is real fun to play. We also have some members who play "rummycup" and in the earlier days they played bingo and also scrabble.

Sometimes we organize daytrips, going somewhere with a bus. We go for a meal (lunch) or have a meal catered for us at the Hall. We still manage to have aprox. 100 Members of which, on average, about 70 attend our weekly meetings, sometimes more, sometimes less. We always welcome new members, so whether you are Dutch or from any other country, we would be happy for you to join us. Our members come from all over the place not only the Croydon-Ringwood (Maroondah) areas.   There is no doubt about it: you cannot deny your roots, especially when one gets a bit older. There seems to be a need to meet up with your countrymen & women, talk your mother tongue and talk about "old times".   This Social Club fulfils those needs and we hope to keep it going for many more years to come.

We play various card games, bingo, scrabble and more Croydon Dutch Club Tuesdays at Keystone Hall, Civic Square, Croydon. Contact Frank 9729 2271 $6 annually, $2/week
